The theory was not wrong, but luckily there were people that refused to be held back by the seemingly impossible and eventually found a way around the diffraction limit for spatial resolution. Some of these brave scientists were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their efforts. Some were not. We are grateful to all of you!
